Let’s talk about copywriting. I know this doesn’t sound very sexy, but copywriting is one of the most important tools you can have in your toolbox. Good copywriting will attract the perfect tribe to you. On the flip side, if marketing feels “icky” or you feel like you are trying to “sell” something, it is because you haven’t taken the time to learn how to connect with your tribe through copywriting.

As spiritual entrepreneurs we really seem to struggle with this part. I think it’s because our businesses are so esoteric, it’s difficult to put into words what it is we actually do. We know we transform lives. We know that our clients are going to love the results. But how do we communicate that to them?

Telling them they will be “stepping into their power” or “living their purpose” doesn’t really cut it (admittedly I am guilty of this offense, but let’s try to make it right).

Now, you could hire a copywriter, but I’ve got to tell you, a good copywriter is really pricey.

If you are on a budget, then I highly recommend that you take the time to understand how to connect with your tribe through the written word. Because you could be the most amazing healer, intuitive, life coach or lightworker, but if you can’t communicate that to your tribe, no one’s going to come knocking on your door.

The number one rule for copywriting is you always need to solve a problem. You should know your tribe intimately. Know their pain points. Understand their problems. Know EXACTLY how you’re going to solve those problems for them. And if you don’t know your tribe intimately yet, you really need to read my post 5 Questions You Must Be Asking to Attract Your Tribe.

Let me give you an example of some copywriting that doesn’t work…and I’m sure you’ve heard this before. It’s usually something like, “How to Live a Balanced and Happy Life.”

If your tribe is stressed out and they’ve got issues with their job, their kids or their marriage and they haven’t slept in months and you’re telling them, “I Can Show You How to Live a Balanced and Happy Life,” that seems completely unattainable.

They have too many immediate problems to deal with in their reality. To your tribe it looks like you clearly don’t understand where they are in their lives. Do you see the disconnect?

However, if the copywriting said, “How to remove the stress from your life so you can get a good nights sleep.” Well, then their ears would perk up because you are going to solve their number one problem…NO SLEEP! Do you see how you have connected with them through the power of your words?

I want you to think of yourself as a problem solver. If you can solve a SPECIFIC problem for your tribe, then they will come to you and they will pay good money to have that problem solved.

I know my goal, and it should be yours, is to hear my tribe say, “Wow, when you said ___________ (fill in the blank) I felt like you were speaking directly to me.” It is music to my ears when I hear those words.

That’s when we’ve made the authentic connection, when we show that we understand our tribe.

Because at the end of the day, we all just want to be understood.

When you show your tribe that you understand them and that you can solve a problem for them, that is when you create a tribe that will follow you and love you.
